Being a new blogger to the scene it can be very difficult to break into the big times, obtaining linkbacks from popular blogs, and driving high amounts of traffic to your site. Of course we all know what high traffic to your blog means. A larger reader base, more exposure, bigger affiliate payouts, more money, more affiliate opportunities, and in some cases even free gadgets for reviews.

I’m not saying that i have the all-access key answer to your traffic problems but maybe these are some methods you can test out to see if they prove to be effective to you.

1. Join the Technorati experiment. This is a sure fire way to increase your Technorati Authority, linkbacks, and traffic to your blog. The goal is to bring your blog up the ranks from 1,900,000 to the Top 100. Reaching the Top 100 will increase your reader base and traffic significantly.

2. Build your Alexa Rank. The importance of increasing your alexa rank means more opportunities for you and your blog. Most advertisers and ad networks use Alexa rank to determine your popularity and the weight of links from your site to theirs. This is a sure way to increase your online income. One cool way to improve your Alexa ranking is to use http://redirect.alexa.com/redirect?http://www.thebeefjerkyblog.com when adding your site URL to any forum sig, links, ect.

Another sure fire way to increase your Alexa rank is to download and install the Alexa widget which looks like:

After installing this widget some bloggers and site owners witnessed their Alexa ranking increase 30-40% within a few weeks. Another surefire way to increase your Alexa Ranking is to download the Alexa Toolbar Alexa uses this toolbar to collect browsing data from visitors who use the toolbar and uses this information to calculate your Alexa ranking.

3. Submit quality articles linking back to your blog via social network sites such as StumbleUpon, and Digg. You can also submit your articles to relevant blog carnivals as well as to 50+ blogs for a through TheBeefJerkyBlog.com for low rate, if interested just visit our 4 hire section.

EXTRA. Join interesting contests and get more involved in the blog communities. This is my entry into the ‘Blog Project: 3,’ over at Daily Blog Tips

Try these methods to boost your blog traffic and see what results you get. Let me know how effective you find this information and or any methods that you have used that i can add to this post, you will get a linkback for your new additions.

Hmm that redirect for alexa is kinda sneaky. I might have to do that.

As far as I know, that Alexa redirect trick no longer works (if it ever did). Most people implement it in conjunction with other measures, so it’s difficult to tell what really has an effect. I did a bit of testing of this technique in isolation, and found no positive effect on the Alexa ranking.

Yeah that’s why i mentioned the ‘Alexa widget’ and toolbar. It can never hurt to have a back up plan.

Hmm…I’m a bit dubious of the Alexa redirect but am redirecting the link attached to this comment (let’s see if it helps, I’m unranked on Alexa right now).

Alexa in general, IMHO, is a bit odd, for instance how installing the widget boosts your ranking, I think I’ll just let things go naturally with my Alexa rank and focus on my content…good post though!

Hey Adam,

Ever since i started using the redirect i believe i’ve seen a small jump in my ranking but once i installed the widget (I’m not a fan of bulky ugly widgets at all) I’ve seen a significant change in my Alexa ranking on two of my sites.

It’s something to try, if it works then stick with it if not then we’ll try again… keep me posted…

Adding quality posts regularly to the blog and submitting them on Social Bookmark sites helps a lot to increase blog traffic.

Thanks,

I have the Alexa toolbar already but added the site stats to my site. Sadly though my ranking is only approx 617000 right now so I don’t really get much info from them.
