5 Distractions To The Nesting Entrepreneur

entrepreneur inside

Let's face it, not all entrepreneurs are lucky enough to fly the coup the day after they discover the entrepreneur inside. These entrepreneurs, such as myself are considered to be nesting. It's a comfort thing. Think about all of the people that go through school and finish college with a million dollar idea but are too afraid to venture out and make it happen, instead they settle for the paper degree and debt. Not saying that it won't happen later in life but the chances of the idea becoming a reality are slim at this point.

The same applies to the working entrepreneur. The comfort of having a guaranteed paycheck every other week or month seems to be to sweet to give up or walk away from especially when bills and family are added to the equation. However, these are not the only distractions that nesting entrepreneurs face:

5. Your Significant Other

In some households there are balances between a husband and wife that may become disturbed when the husband or wife becomes enlightened with the entrepreneurial spirit. In some cases, jealousy may be the culprit. When one finds their true passion in life and seek to make it happen, their significant other may receive an overwhelming abundance of mixed feelings and become regretful for not seeking the same for themselves.

It can also be a matter of the two not being on the same page or not working towards to the same goals. Let's say you have a business partner (marriage is a business partnership), and you are bootstrapping the business but your partner buys buys buys. This will surely fail. Well, when a couple is not on the same page there is a lack of communication that can cause your significant other to become a distraction more than a supporter. Get them on board!

4. The Success of Other Entrepreneurs

As an entrepreneur we seem to become so engulfed in the success of others and what they did or are currently doing in order to achieve their success. This can be great motivation and at the same time a great distraction. If you're always reading about other successful entrepreneurs when are you finding time to achieve your own success?

3. People

I use to share my ideas and inventions with others (family included) and shortly learned the hard way that your friends and family will not always have your best interest in mind and at heart. These are the people that do not understand the concept of being an entrepreneur.

These are the hard workers that make entrepreneurial dreams come true because they will work so hard to make someone else rich and can't really justify giving up a guaranteed paycheck. The distraction here lies in their words of encouragement or lack of i should say.

2. Your Boss

This is obvious, i had a boss that tried to make my job harder once she realized that i was working on a startup. I mean this woman, sent packages, mail-orders, invoices back via return to sender without my notice and neglected to inform me.

Instead i had to hear from the manufactures and confront her directly about it. I'm thinking the idea of her going to jail for interfering with postal mail was not as pleasing to her as it was to me. All i had to do was remind her that interfering with my mail was a federal offense and my lawyer was already on the paper work and if she were to continue bullying me and threatening to fire me then i would have to take further legal action. All was fine...

1. The J.O.B.

There is a reason why people say take this job and stuff it. People nowadays live to work and have it all wrong. Life is meant to be fun and people are meant to work to live. 40hrs a day to live paycheck to paycheck is not as exciting as a 4-hour work week. While you're working 40hrs a week and maybe some weekends, when are you finding time to gear up your venture?

With a job comes comfort and stability but limitations. All decisions and choices have consequences. Work to make someone else rich or work to make yourself rich that is the real question but the million dollar question is, "If you had to do something for the rest of your life, what would it be?"

Here you have it, a list of 5 distractions to the nesting entrepreneurs. Maybe it's time to leave the nest and blaze your own entrepreneurial path to success. There has never been a better time than now.

By this time next year where will you be?

My sentiments exactly. Like the “Inside” graphics. I always get a chuckle when I see that and remember the problems Intel had at one time.

The response to that little sticker then was, “Is that an endorsement or a warning?”

No it’s not an endorsement, I’m becoming an AMD guy but i thought the graphic would be a neat way to relate the post with a major corp. As working for others in itself can be a distraction. Just a little reminder that there is an entrepreneur inside. Some people have it and lose it because they become comfortable and settle.

      Thanks for the comment…

      cheers

I’ve been spending a lot of time reading about how others are making money!!

I don’t necessary want to be a millionaire, just comfortable enough to keep traveling and enjoying life.

That’s why like a million others I want to make money online so thanks for your tips and stuff.

I still feel very naive and don’t feel like I have the skills right now to make the money I need purely online so I am sure will have to spend time working a day job for a while longer!

My problem seems to be marketing in particular. I have a few ideas but have no idea how to get them to the right people.

For example I have a site selling prints from peoples digital photos but have no idea how to get it out so people will know where it is and use it!

My blog is going a little better because it’s purely social and i’m not trying to get anything out of anyone but I still am finding it hard to see where money will come from that!!!

I too work a day job, i think the human interaction is very important.

If you would like, i can help you out… I don’t really mind, just contact me via email and we can exchange msn or AIM. On the side I like to offer my services and knowledge to others. Services can be seen on the hire me page, the tab right before the search bar.

As far as your blog site i think you have some good potential there being that it is social.

Your website idea, contact me and we can see what we can cook up for you to get somethings going.

      cheers
