"One of the most important books I've read this year."
- James Altucher, author of Wall Street Journal bestseller, Choose Yourself!
I recently read a book that I completely understood and yet again forgot from time to time, and through all of the meditation techniques, prayer, and self-hypnosis this book reintroduced me to the most simplistic point that all of my practices were built upon and to reinforce. Loving myself, the basic root to all of life’s truly transformative work. At the end of all of the coaching sessions, therapy sessions, and eventually while in the midst of a divorce, through it all, I realized that I truly stopped loving myself. In return, life gave and reflected back to me what I was feeling and harboring within.
Kamal talks about magic in his book, and in the video below he mentions lunch with a friend of which she shares with him that she believes that we are living heaven on earth. This was literally mind-blowing for me, and was truly the beginning of a transformative shift within me.
This is for real, and this video and book is a must for anyone looking for change, for anyone in your life needing help, for anyone experiencing a ‘God save me moment,’ here it is.
Love Yourself Like Your Life Depends On It
By Kamal Ravikant
About Kamal Ravikant
I've been fortunate enough to have some amazing experiences in my life so far. I've trekked to one of the highest base camps in the Himalayas, meditated with Tibetan monks in the Dalai Lama's monastery, earned my US Army Infantry patch, walked 550 miles across Spain, lived in Paris, been the only non-black, non-woman member of the Black Women's writers' group, written a novel, held the hands of dying patients, and worked with some of the best people in Silicon Valley.
But the most transformative experience has been the simple act of loving myself.
TABLE OF CONTENTS
Chapter One: What is this About?
Loving yourself. Same thing your mom told you, same thing self-help books repeat enough times to be cliché. But there is a difference. It’s not lip service. It’s not a fire and forget type approach. It’s something I learned from within myself, something I believe saved me. And more than that, the way I set about to do it. Most of it, simple enough to be idiotic. But in simplicity lies truth. In simplicity lies power.
Starting with the write-up I sent my friend, this is a collection of thoughts on what I learned, what worked, what didn’t. Where I succeed and importantly, where I fail daily.
As a wise friend likes to remind me, this is a practice. You don’t go to the gym once and consider yourself done. Same here. Meditation is a practice. Working out is a practice. Loving yourself, perhaps the most important of all, is a practice.
The truth is to love yourself up if you were hanging off a cliff with your fingers. As if your life depended upon it. Once you get going, it’s not hard to do. Just takes commitment and I’ll share how I did it.
